Geography of the Study

Email Print PDF

Although this is a global project, involving so far research in a number of West African countries, the United States, and Egypt, our core research has taken place in a few key areas: the Siin and Saalum regions of Senegal, Dakar, and villages in Mauritania such as Maᶜṭa Mulāna. Some Association members did research excursions to Gambia and other West African countries. Joseph Hill is now in Cairo, where many Taalibe Baay from around the world are studying. Here is a list of all the places Association members have conducted research between 2004 and 2009.

(I will soon put a map here showing many of the places referenced in the documents in this archive. Medina Baay is not pictured because it is officially a neighborhood within the city of Kawlax, located at the northeastern fringe of the city.)

Newsflash

Medinabaay.org came back on line on September 10, 2009, at least sort of. Our archives are still awaiting a server, but the Medina Baay Research Association will report here on its ongoing fieldwork, findings, and observations. Please stay tuned as we redesign the site and reorganize our archive of interviews, meeting transcriptions, photos, manuscripts, videos, and so on.
